LAKSHMIDEVI SOMANATH is an alumnus of National Law School of India, Bangalore and practised in intellectual property laws for 19 years mainly before the Hon’ble High Court of Madras, also various other High Courts, and the Intellectual Property Appellate Board.
Counsel-on-record in various trademark cases before the different High Courts, and before the Intellectual Property Appellate Board and was speaking counsel in these cases concerning significant questions in intellectual property interpretation and application.
Has filed and prosecuted trade mark applications and oppositions before the Trade Mark Registry India. Has also coordinated filing of trade mark applications in other countries including USA, Germany, EU, Sri Lanka, South Africa, UAE and Japan
Was a prolific mooter during her graduate college days, and among others:
- Represented India in the 2000 Phillip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition, USA and ranked 16th best speaker worldwide among 400 Participants.
- Represented India in the Afro Asian International Moot Court Competition, 1999 and adjudged second best team.
- Second best team in the 1st Raj Anand Intellectual Property Moot Court Competition, 1998.
University second Rank holder in the B.A.L., LL.B. course, Gold medallist and University topper in the LL.M. course.
Recipient of the First M.K Gandhi National Law Teaching Fellowship, 2001
Authored the book ‘MANUAL OF CYBER LAWS’, by Aditya Book Company (ABC), July 2010, has written articles for newspapers and journals, and was the Associate Editor, Chennai Law Times, 2007-2012. A regular speaker at various seminars and conferences
